How Your HVAC System Can Help in Ragweed Season

Ragweed pollen arrives in late summer. A few HVAC changes keep more of it outside.

Clean, bright bedroom and living space with fresh indoor air

Just as spring pollen fades, ragweed starts blooming in late summer and keeps going into fall. A single plant can release a huge amount of pollen, and it travels a long way on the wind.

How pollen gets inside

It rides in on clothes, shoes and pets, and through open doors and windows. Once inside, your HVAC system either traps it or keeps moving it around.

What helps

  • Use the highest-rated filter your system is designed for, and change it on schedule. A clogged filter stops working.
  • Keep windows closed on high-pollen days and let the AC do the work.
  • Consider an in-duct air purifier or better filter cabinet for the whole house.
  • Have the ducts checked: leaky return ducts in the attic can pull in dusty, pollen-filled air.
  • If someone in the house has bad allergies, ask us whether running the fan more often makes sense for your system.

Get the system ready

A late-summer check of filters, ducts and coils is a good way to start allergy season. Call (850) 818-2182 to book one.
